Tetrahydrofuran for GC is a high-purity, aprotic cyclic ether specifically manufactured for gas chromatography applications. It is widely used as a solvent and analytical reagent in chemical, pharmaceutical, and research laboratories, where low water content, minimal stabilizer levels, and excellent chromatographic performance are essential for accurate and reproducible GC analysis.

🏭⚗️ Production
Produced via catalytic hydrogenation of furan or dehydration and cyclization of 1,4-butanediol, followed by multi-stage purification and fractional distillation to achieve GC-grade quality. Strict controls are applied to reduce water, peroxides, and non-volatile residues that may interfere with chromatographic detection. Each batch is tested for purity, boiling range, water content, peroxide level, and GC baseline performance. Supplied in airtight, light-resistant containers, often stabilized to inhibit peroxide formation during storage.

🔬 Properties
Clear, colorless liquid with a mild ether-like odor. Completely miscible with water and most organic solvents. Low boiling point and low viscosity, providing excellent volatility and peak shape in GC analysis. Chemically stable under recommended storage conditions but prone to peroxide formation upon prolonged exposure to air and light. Highly flammable and forms explosive peroxides if improperly stored.

🧪 Applications
Commonly used as a GC solvent and sample diluent in analytical and quality control laboratories. Applied in pharmaceutical analysis, polymer chemistry, and reaction monitoring. Also used as a reaction solvent and intermediate in organic synthesis where GC-compatible purity and consistent performance are required.

⚠️ Safety
For laboratory use only. Highly flammable liquid and vapor. May form explosive peroxides during storage. Causes eye and skin irritation; vapors may cause dizziness or respiratory discomfort. Handle only in well-ventilated areas or fume hoods. Use appropriate personal protective equipment, including gloves, lab coat, and eye protection. Store in tightly sealed containers in a cool, dry place away from heat, ignition sources, and oxidizing agents. Regularly test for peroxides and dispose of according to local chemical waste regulations.
