Biuret Reagent Solution is a classic biochemical reagent composed of copper(II) sulfate, sodium hydroxide (or potassium hydroxide), and sodium potassium tartrate, used predominantly for detecting peptide bonds in proteins.

🏭⚗️ Production
The Biuret Reagent Solution is prepared by dissolving copper(II) sulfate in water, adding sodium potassium tartrate to stabilize the cupric ions, and then introducing a strong base such as sodium hydroxide—until an alkaline environment is achieved. This yields a stable, deep blue solution used when protein testing is required.

🔬 Properties
This solution presents as a clear, intensely blue liquid due to dissolved Cu²⁺ ions. It functions in an alkaline medium, where the cupric ions form coordination complexes with peptide bonds, producing a violet or mauve-colored complex. The intensity of this color correlates with the amount of peptide present, making it useful for quantifying protein levels via absorbance at around 540 nm.

🧪 Applications
Biuret Reagent Solution is fundamental in the Biuret Test a colorimetric assay for detecting proteins and peptides. When added to a sample containing multiple peptide bonds, it induces a violet color change. The test is widely used in clinical biochemistry for measuring total protein in sera or plasma, in food industry quality control for protein content, and in educational labs for demonstrating protein detection. It also forms the chemical basis for more sensitive assays like BCA and Lowry methods.

⚠️ Safety
The reagent is corrosive due to its strong alkaline nature and can cause irritation or chemical burns upon skin or eye contact. It should be handled with proper protective equipment such as gloves and goggles and stored in a tightly sealed container, ideally protected from light.
