Triethylamine is a colorless, volatile organic compound classified as a tertiary amine, widely used as a base and catalyst in chemical synthesis.

🏭⚗️ Production
Triethylamine is produced industrially by the alkylation of ammonia or ethylene oxide with ethylene and ammonia, followed by separation and purification. In labs, it can be synthesized by alkylation of ammonia or by reaction of ethanol with ammonia.

🔬 Properties
It appears as a colorless liquid with a strong fishy ammonia-like odor. Its chemical formula is C₆H₁₅N, and its molar mass is approximately 101.19 g/mol. It is miscible with organic solvents, slightly soluble in water, has a boiling point around 89°C, and acts as a moderately strong organic base.

🧪 Applications
Triethylamine is widely used as a base in organic synthesis, catalyst in polymerization, neutralizing agent in pharmaceuticals, and as an additive in the manufacture of dyes, pesticides, and rubber chemicals.

⚠️ Safety
It is flammable and toxic, causing irritation to skin, eyes, and respiratory system. Inhalation may cause dizziness and headaches. Proper ventilation, protective gloves, goggles, and flame-resistant storage are required. It should be kept away from heat, sparks, and oxidizing agents.
