Rapid decalcification (CalciOut) refers to a high‑speed decalcification process used in histological sample preparation, particularly for urgent specimens. It enables significantly faster removal of calcium from tissues—such as bone—while minimizing distortion and preserving staining quality in comparison to conventional decalcification methods.

The rapid decalcifier is available as a clear liquid solution, applied in substantial excess relative to tissue volume (e.g., at least 10-fold). Prior to use, fixed tissue is rinsed, then submerged in the solution ensuring full coverage. The decalcification progress should be monitored every 30 to 60 minutes, and the solution should be replaced every 2–3 hours to maintain efficacy.
🔬 Properties
This rapid decalcification solution acts much faster than standard agents, yet reduces tissue distortion and maintains excellent staining characteristics. It is corrosive (often containing strong acids like hydrochloric acid) and can cause severe burns, requiring careful handling and safety precautions.
