Coconut oil

Coconut Oil is an edible oil derived from the meat of the coconut palm fruit. It is a white solid fat below around 25°C and a clear thin liquid oil at higher temperatures. Unrefined varieties have a distinct coconut aroma. Coconut oil is widely used in pharmaceutical, cosmetic, and laboratory formulations for its moisturizing, emollient, and protective properties.

🏭⚗️ Production
Coconut oil can be extracted through wet or dry processes. In the wet process, coconut milk is obtained from raw coconut, and the oil is separated using boiling, centrifugation, or fermentation. In the dry process, dried coconut meat (copra) is crushed to extract the oil. Both methods produce a stable oil suitable for cosmetic, pharmaceutical, and laboratory use.

Coconut oil is rich in saturated fatty acids, primarily lauric acid, myristic acid, and palmitic acid, along with small amounts of monounsaturated and polyunsaturated fats. It is solid at room temperature, chemically stable, and non-irritating. The oil functions as a moisturizing emollient, forming a protective barrier on the skin, and can act as an inert medium in laboratory formulations.

In pharmaceutical and cosmetic formulations, coconut oil is used as a base for creams, ointments, lotions, and hair care products due to its moisturizing and emollient properties.
