Calcium Hydroxide is a high-purity, pharmacopeial-grade inorganic base used in pharmaceutical and analytical laboratories for neutralization reactions, preparation of alkaline solutions, water treatment, and chemical synthesis.
🏭⚗️ Production
Prepared by slaking high-purity quicklime with distilled or deionized water under controlled conditions to form a homogeneous suspension or solution. The product is filtered, standardized, and supplied in chemically resistant, tightly sealed containers to prevent carbonation, contamination, and moisture absorption. Quality is verified according to pharmacopeial and analytical standards.
🔬 Properties
A white, odorless, slightly soluble powder or a milky aqueous suspension. Strongly alkaline, hygroscopic, and reacts vigorously with acids. Stable under dry, sealed storage but can react with carbon dioxide from the air to form carbonate.
🧪 Applications
Used in pharmaceutical and analytical laboratories for pH adjustment, neutralization of acids, preparation of lime water, and as a reagent in chemical synthesis and analytical procedures. Also used in water treatment and as a buffering agent in experimental formulations.
⚠️ Safety
Corrosive and can cause severe skin and eye irritation or burns. Handle with gloves, goggles, and protective clothing in a well-ventilated area or fume hood. Avoid inhalation of dust and contact with acids or incompatible materials. Store in a cool, dry, tightly sealed container away from moisture and carbon dioxide. Dispose of according to laboratory and environmental regulations.
